Millions ‘lost through mobile mishaps’
Britons are losing out on millions of pounds by accidentally losing or breaking mobile phones, new figures reveal.
According to research conducted by SimplySwitch.com, about 4.5 million handsets are lost or damaged every year at a cost of some £342 million - a figure which could help many with debt management or personal loan repayments.
Founder Karen Darby said: "With handsets now costing up to £400 and people often opting out of the insurance package, there’s more reason than ever to look after your mobile."
Ms Darby added that with three quarters of Britons now owning a mobile phone, consumers could be well advised to keep a copy of any numbers on a computer or a Sim card.
"As phones continue to shrink in size, they also become easier to lose, so people need to take extra care," she advised.
However, mobile users wishing to use their phone while abroad could find their attempts at debt management eased as from July 1st, those making and receiving calls within the European Union will receive capped charges.
Ms Darby claimed this could mean customers will not receive a "nasty shock" when they next open their mobile phone bills.
