Difference In Car Insurance Costs Revealed By Comparethemarket
With car crime rates on the rise, it is important that motorists take sufficient steps to protect their vehicle.
Such is the assertion of comparethemarket, which reveals that as the prevalence of such law-breaking is on the up, getting a good insurance deal becomes evermore crucial. However, the price comparison website states that despite an overall increase drivers could find that there is a dramatic difference in how much they have to pay for car cover. Overall, the north-west of England and the Greater London regions were indicated as being the costliest locations for car insurance. Here the typical cover cost 844 pounds and 74 pence and 804 pounds and 68 pence respectively, with the firm suggesting that “crime, among other factors, may be keeping insurance premium rates disproportionately high”. It was also revealed that these parts of the country face the most vehicle crime per household.
On the other hand, it was shown that consumers in the south-west are privy to the lowest motor insurance cost. Those in this part of the country were said to pay an average of 569 pounds and 32 pence, while Scottish motorists shell out just under 580 pounds. Away from the capital and the north-west, drivers in the north-east have the highest insurance premium at more than 721 pounds, followed by Midlands motorists who on average pay 696 pounds.
However, after being a victim of car crime, those motorists who lack sufficient insurance could find that their ability to repair their vehicle and replace stolen items, while managing other areas of financial constraint - such as personal loans and credit cards - comes under strain.
Jeremy Moll, insurance expert for comparethemarket, said: “Motorists in areas of high vehicle crime can look to lower the price they pay for their car insurance in the first instance by shopping around when they look to renew their car insurance policy.”
In a bid to improve the safety of their car - and in particular for those living in high-risk areas - Mr Moll recommended the installation of a car alarm and steering lock. He claimed that such devices act as an “ideal” deterrent against would-be criminals. The insurance expert went on to advise against making modifications to a vehicle as not only could this see a consumers car attract unwanted attention but may also result in an increase in insurance premiums. It was also reported that those who have a garage available to them should use it to store their car. In doing so it was suggested that up to 26 pounds per year could be saved on an annual motor insurance policy.
Whether searching for a Lamborghini or a Land Rover, those consumers looking for an effective way in which to purchase a new vehicle might wish to consider taking out a motor loan. In applying for this kind of loan, borrowers may not only find they are able to purchase a car quickly but are also given the financial assistance with which to purchase a comprehensive insurance policy and also take measures to bolster the security of their car - for instance buying a steering wheel lock. Meanwhile, a recent study by Experian showed that just under a third (30 per cent) of men believe the environmental impact of a car will play an important factor in choosing their next automobile.
