Government Auto Auctions – Are Legitimate Online Auction Sites Out There?

“Subscibe To and Bid on Online Government Auto Auctions only after you learn the ropes”

Maybe you’ve been there before yourself, but I got scammed by a car auction site when I paid $49.95 for a 1 year subscription that had very little to offer. The up front promotion was great but there were very few vehicles that met my search criteria after they had my money.

If there is a government auto, seized vehicle, or police auction site out there that I have not tried, I am not aware of it. Most of the sites I have tried are not worth the subscription fee. Many didn’t deliver or stand behind their claims.

The good news is that legitimate car auction sites are out there. You can find huge bargains, but it will take some work on your part. Here’s how to begin your search intelligently.

I can vouch for the fact that you can purchase a used or seized car from an online auction site for a fraction of its’ market value if you first DO the research, DO NOT stray from your numbers and most importantly BE PATIENT for the best deal. Also…and I ask that you take my word for it…stick to the top 3 or 4 sites that will find and sell you your next great car. They have more auctions, more vehicles and more support and training. They run an honest site and if you keep your eyes open and remain patient your dream car will become available at a great bargain. Not matter what you are looking for it is out there, trust me.

Rule #1 regarding online auction sites, and auctions in general is to start with a solid plan. In other words research the vehicle you are interested in at sites like Edmunds or Kelley Blue Book. These sites will give you all the information you need to determine value. Know your car inside and out and how options, mileage and condition effect market value. They stick with what you learned. If you have researched a Honda, don’t start bidding on a Hummer just because it seems to be a good deal. You have to absolutely know a great deal when you see one. Once you complete the research you will be efficient and confident and that will lead to better bidding and a great buy.

Once you know the value of the car you want check the top auctions to see if similar cars have sold for that price. This is the sanity check you need to determine a real deal and to make sound bids when the right car comes up for auction. This sometimes translates into a car purchase at 25-30% of blue book value. Adjust your numbers based on what you find and then stick to the numbers. Don’t chase a car beyond your goal price; don’t overbid.

Armed with this advice, read about the 4 best government auto auction sites you should consider when conducting your search. I have rated several seized vehicle auctions here that rated 4 out of 5 stars or better
