People ‘Want Valentine’s Break’
Brits are looking to be whisked away this February 14th, according to new figures.
A study carried out by Alpharooms indicates that more than half (56 per cent) of people want to go on holiday, or a romantic weekend, with their loved one. Just under a fifth (18 per cent), meanwhile, would like an amorous meal for two. Other responses for desired Valentine’s Day presents include antique ornaments and fitness equipment, while traditional gifts such as flowers and chocolate also prove to be popular.
For those looking for an effective way to finance the purchase of such items, taking out a low-cost loan could be advisable.
However, despite such statistics of what they would like to receive the study suggested that many Britons could be set for disappointment, as 61 per cent expect to feel let down this Valentine’s Day. Additionally, the study showed that about a third of people do not receive a gift from their partner. Cliched gifts women believe they will receive this year include cheap perfume and flowers from a petrol station, with men preparing themselves to pay for a meal at an expensive restaurant.
And despite 2008 being a leap year, a time when women are encouraged to break traditions and propose to their partner, some four per cent of females questioned believe that they will be asked the big question next week.
Sarah Beale, spokesperson for Alpharooms, said: “We used an online survey to find out what Brits would most like to receive on Valentine’s Day, compared to what they expected to receive. We also split the results according to gender and the feedback proved to be very interesting. It was surprising to see that the majority of people expected to receive nothing at all on Valentine’s Day and it seems that as a nation we’re still not very imaginative with our gifts as women still expect to receive unwanted cliches like tacky underwear and men dread having to fork out for an expensive meal.”
The study revealed that men are looking to go somewhere sunny, with the majority of males wanting to go on a beach holiday. Women, however, prefer an “action-packed” city break. Meanwhile, 40 per cent claimed that they do not have any particular preference for their romantic break, as long as they get to spend it with the person that they love.
For those looking to give their significant other a real surprise this February 14th, applying for a personal loan could be recommended. In taking out a quick loan, it is possible that consumers could pay for a romantic holiday or even splash out on expensive jewellery, which may include an engagement ring. However, before getting a UK loan it may be advisable for prospective borrowers to ensure that they are getting the best deal possible on credit. Last month, research carried out by Moneyextra showed that in switching some of the most expensive monetary products on the market for cost-effective offers, consumers could save thousands of pounds over the course of a year. The firm stated in taking out a 9,000 pounds loan payable over five years borrowers could be some 487 pounds 88 pence better off.
